What is it?
Around 1 in 5 U.S. adults report they binge drink once a week, consuming at least seven drinks. Scientists think repeated binging and then withdrawal is impacting the brain. The brain then shifts into wanting you to binge drink to prevent feeling bad.

Do you think heavy drinking converts from pleasure to pain prevention over time? After a while, do you think people drink to feel good or to prevent feeling bad?

What is it?
When the light bulb was invented, it was used so we can see in the dark. But modern lighting may also mimic sunlight and help us not feel so exhausted. This light can provide energy during the day and improve our sleep at night.
Potential message to students:
If you owned a large company, would you invest in something like lighting to get more productivity from your employees? Do you think it would improve test scores at schools if they had better lighting?

Discrimination May Accelerate Aging
What is it?
Discrimination may lead to aging faster which will lead to more disease and death. Scientists think this is because stress hormones are being activated. Stress can lead to poor sleep and other health impacts.
Potential message to students:
Do you think this is part of why Historically Black Colleges and Universities are so successful? Do you think this environment creates less stress for Black students?
