What is it?
A woman decided to make being a mother part of her scientific career. She takes her kids to conferences and on expeditions. Turns out, her kids are great at making friends in foreign countries which leads to Mom getting insights and help from the locals.

Potential message to students:
Do you think women having children are hurting their careers and opportunities for promotion? Do you think mothers should just be defiant and bring their kids to work and on business trips?

Association between opioid use disorder and palliative care: a cohort study using linked health administrative data in Ontario, Canada

What is it?
People get special care when they are about to die. This care helps with pain and comfort at the end of life. But those who use opioids get less of this type of care.

Potential message to students:
Do you think doctors don’t want to give pain medication at the end of life to someone who has an addiction? Does the addiction matter if you are going to die anyway? Or do you think doctors are biased against these addicts and are ok with them suffering more at the end of life?

Study: Web-Based Chats Boost Brain Function in Older Adults

What is it?
The elderly who are socially isolated benefit from online video calls every few days. Researchers think web-based chats may help with cognitive decline.

Potential message to students:
Do you think AI will be able to chat with our grandparents within a few years? Do you think AI could take the place of a human, chatting with older people, and helping them cognitively
?
